A new power-vacuum formed within the loose coalition of smugglers and pirates that once fell under the overlord's dominion. The Pykes, long-time alternating business partners and adversaries to Jabba, rushed to seize the fracturing pieces.

Many smugglers, however, would quickly determine that the death of their debtor provided them with a new lease on prosperity. Thousands of small smuggler bands would quickly form, scrambling to create their own fortunes among the smoldering embers of the war.

Most would fail, or subsequently be assimilated by the Pykes. A few, however, would grow to unforeseen prominence.

Foremost of these, against all odds, would be the band of smugglers led by the Notorious Talon Karrde.
