Thibault Nycene

A middle son of a minor Noble house from Serenno, Thibault was raised from a young age to support and uplift the interests of the Nycene family.

It was only in the awakening of his Force Sensitivity that his father began to perceive his middle son's potential. In an effort to appease both sides of the Galactic diarchy, Thibault was sent to the Jedi, while his beloved old brother joined the ranks of the Imperial Knights.

A cunning negotiator and fast learner, Thibault's short career as a Jedi has quickly distinguished him as one of the Order's most promising young Knights.

Early Life

Serenno

Thibault was born in 4BBY on Serenno to Count Remus Nycene and his wife Mabbius, the Lady Nycene.

The middle child, bookended by his older brother Aerius and younger brother Vyren, Thibault escaped notice for a large portion of his existence.

He excelled at nothing, impressed nobody, and was fast left in the shadows of his siblings.

He was still granted the same such tutelage afforded children of his station, ensuring he wasn’t left as some ignorant dullard, but Remus saw no real use for him; blinded by the potential of his older and younger brothers.

Force Sensitivity

Around the age of 14, with the Galactic Civil War largely resolved and a new Jedi Order being established, Thibault tested for Force sensitivity.

It was more of a fad than anything else, and a gamble on the part of his father who had nothing to lose on the test otherwise.

To Remus’ great delight, both Aerius and Thibault were found to be Force sensitive.

The gift was rare, and those who had it were rumored to be powerful individuals. In fact, Remus knew of a few who had made their names widely known and saw his chance.

If these Jedi, these Imperial Knights could find fame and renown, why not his own sons?

To better secure his chances, Remus sent his eldest, Aerius, to the Imperial Knights, hoping for his growth.

For Thibault, he was to go to the Jedi Order on Yavin, thus giving Remus Nycene two easy ins to two of the most powerful organizations in the galaxy.

Life of a Jedi

Training on Yavin

An extension of his father’s will, Thibault went to the Jedi Temple on Yavin, learning the basics and necessities under Davin Thale.

He put his statesmanship to work, supplementing his lessons with resources from the archives, learning the old manners and traditions from the Order’s extended history.

To his personal pleasure, he found he took to being a Jedi better than anything he had done in his life.

The majority of his youth had been spent as a burden, set to the side. The immortal curse of the middle child.

It had taught him to be careful, to choose his words and actions with care; unintentionally molding him into a decent statesman, one that escaped his father’s notice.

When words were chosen with such intention, the conversations had more weight.

His master Davin Thale quickly realized this when the quiet padawan he had taken on proved to be well spoken and well learned.

He fostered it, helped him grow, helped him to be more sure.

As a consequence, his confidence and resolve hardened.

The Massassi

Thibault’s training proceeded well and it was fast decided that it was time for him to find and receive his kyber crystal.

Unable to use Ilum as in the days of old, the masters of the new order made use of the ruins dotted around Yavin’s wooded landscape.

It was in one of these that Thibault met a massassi, a sithspawn creature from the early days of the Old Republic, trapped under a stone.

Necklaced around its massive neck was his kyber crystal, he could feel it calling to him.

Between the two, they struck a deal; Thibault would not slay the creature or raise his hand against it and he would help free it in return for the crystal.

Combined with the Massassi’s strength and Thibault’s use of the Force, the creature was freed and the crystal was given.

In order to ensure his word was kept, the massassi broke Thibault’s weapon arm as was their way.

Knighthood & Beyond

On his path to Knighthood, Thibault impressed his masters on a number of occasions.

He led a successful negotiation between two rival Sith factions on the planet of Vjun, preventing further needless bloodshed between the two parties.

This culminated into a duel between two champions which Thibault stopped when it was clear there was a winner.

On Onderron, with Tav Orkoris, Nessira Adrass and Alva Hiwot, he helped root out an ambitious advisor to the Prince who sought control and had overseen the murder of innocents to spark a conflict between the Hapan Consortium and the Empire.

During his trials he performed admirably, even as the nature of the thing changed drastically.

He adapted well with his fellow padawans and earned his Knighthood at its rocky conclusion.

Just in time to face a greater, older threat that endangered the entire galaxy and their continued existence…
